Here at Sewport- We’re passionate about fashion and love the industry, but not even we can deny that designers from minority backgrounds are under-represented. We also acknowledge that we’re in a position to do something about this, and are thrilled to announce that we have launched the Sewport Fashion Design Scholarship Programme, which will:

- award £2,000 or $2,600 to the winning student
- free manufacturing of their garment design

Who is eligible to enter?

The Scholarship programme is open to students with a BAME background, in the UK,EU and USA. Students who are either already studying an undergraduate degree or are about to start university/college in the 2019 academic year are eligible. Unfortunately graduated, doctorate or masters students are not eligible to apply.

The winner of the Scholarship will have to provide proof of their studies at a UK university or US college.

BAME Explained

BAME stands for black, asian and minority ethnicity, and is essentially anyone who isn’t caucasian.

How to enter

If you fit the criteria you can enter the programme by filling out the form below end of this page.

You will have to upload your fashion design, which needs to be a complete outfit, rather than a singular item, like a handbag for example. What garments you decide to design is completely up to you. You can upload a maximum of 2 design sketches, which can be scanned in or photographed. Please ensure both are of good quality.

You will also need to include:

  • Your name
  • Email address
  • The educational institute you study at
  • A 700 word (max) cover letter detailing a little bit about yourself, why you should win the scholarship and how you plan to use the scholarship money

Deadline

Applications open on the 8th March at 12.01am and close on the 8th April at 11.59pm.

The judging process

An independent panel of fashion experts will review digital submissions of the student’s fashion designs from the 10th April to the 22th April. The winner will be announced on the 4th May via email.

The Scholarship prize

The winning student will receive either £2,000 or $2,600 to contribute to their studies, and free clothing manufacturing to bring their winning design to life. Sewport will also ship the manufactured design to the student free of charge.

Disclaimer

Sewport guarantees that all designs submitted remain the property of the designer and will not be used by any third parties or Sewport, however by applying you are agreeing to Sewport using the images uploaded for onsite and social content with full credit to the designer.
